The Start of the COVID-19 Pandemic

New York City emerges as an epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic. New Yorkers face illness, anxiety, economic instability, isolation, and food insecurity, while essential workers, including health care and social service providers, risk their lives to care for others. The pandemic also brings longstanding racial inequities into sharp relief, with Black and Latino New Yorkers dying at much higher rates than their white counterparts.
